What Do I Eat in a Day as a Type 1 Diabetic

What You Eat Depends on Your Blood Sugars
Hi, I'm Elizabeth Hannah Walton. I'm a diabetes educator as well as being diabetic. And I've had a couple of people ask me, you know, tell us what you eat for the day?
That's a hard question to answer. Because it usually depends on what my blood sugars are. I have a constant testing instrument called a CGM. And if my blood sugars are doing well, then I'm never eating, you know, less I go up for Mexican food. Never eating over 30 grams of carb in a meal.
And I always try to make sure that I have enough protein in it too, to satiate me and keep me on to the next meal. I'm not usually a snacker, but if I snack, I try to snack on things that are not going to affect my blood sugar, such as cheese sticks or olives and pepperonis, and all kinds of things, but I love fermented foods. I also try to make sure I'm getting enough fiber intake for the day to improve digestion.
But every day is different because blood sugars change. And so you've got to be real careful in you know, answering a question like that because my day is never like the previous one or like the next one.
So I know that doesn't give you a real good you know, point blank answer. But it's going to depend on what your blood sugars are and so your blood sugar is going to rule everything. If you have any questions about dealing with diabetes or questions about nutrition, please contact me and I'd be happy to answer them for you.
