Farxiga Is Approved For Kids For Weight Loass
Farxiga (SGLP-2 inhibitor) is approved for kids for weight loss. The DA approved it in June, 2024. This study was for kids who are 10 years and older that have Type 2 Diabetes.
This study was 26 weeks long and Farxiga was given to one group in addition to Metformin/insulin and the other group was placebo. The group on the medication had a reduction of A1C of 0.62% opposed to 0.41% increase in the placebo group. Safety results were no different than in adult Type 2 diabetics.
The presence of Type 2 diabetes continues to be on the rise and most studies are done on adults and very limited in adolescents. (Endocrine Today, September 2024.Vol 22. No 9)
The FDA has fast-tracked an immunotherapy treatment for early-stage Type 1 Diabetes (DM1). This treatment is intended for adolescents with a specific hereditary gene who are in Stage 1 of DM1. At this stage, they have no symptoms but possess certain antibodies detectable in a blood test. Stage 2 is identified when an individual has these antibodies along with elevated glucose levels, still without any other symptoms.
The new trial will test people between ages 8-18.
